Black People Love Us
Deep political commentary or racist satire? You decide. I only wish the site was pointless...
| TrackBackAn analysis of the text (and myself) in 10 seconds actual time
1.These are some pretty silly white people
2.They are frighteningly unaware of the greater cultural reality of strained racial relations in this country
3. The African American depicted are oddly devoid of "frightening" aspects of stereotyped African American culture. The website couple therefore is not as open minded as indicated
4. The couple are actually closet racists/classists in as much as they are associating with only upper middle class african americans; they are also trying way too hard
5. This site is obviuosly racist in its flippant depiction of legitimate socio-economic issues
6.Clearly this whole thing is made up by college humor mag rabble-rousers and/or bored sociology masters program students.
7. Despite this analysis, white liberal guilt of my undeserved socio-economic status
8. Note to self: rent Spike Lee's "Malcom X" tonight
To the person who said, note to self: see Spike Lee's "Malcom X" I'd suggest you see Spike Lee's Bamboozeled, and rethink your stance on Black People Like Us. This website isn't childish humor. It's real satire about the most insideous bigotry, the bigotry that is subtle and understated.
Posted by: patrick on September 11, 2003 12:59 AMhhmmmm...annie. what are these frightening aspects of black culture? a reference to these outliers in this sort of satire would have been as inappropriate as, say, johnny being revamped as a klan member.
also, annie, this site is not racist at ALL. you can read about the creators here.
lastly, annie...malcolm x cannot help u wander from the shallow pool of complacency u do not even realize u r stewing in.
zoltan, honey. i dunno...i laughed my butt off. self-conscious nothing. muahahahahaha.
patrick...poor little patrick. bamboozled? what does she need to watch that for? to get a handle on what sub-par black cinema really is? i think that if she wants to watch a decent movie, she made the right choice as long as she stops the film right before the 'i AM malcolm x' bit.
my damn link didnt work.

it's satire. i've seen a couple articles in various locations questioning its taste, however.
